America: The World’s “Dictator”

At the Nigerian stop of his gringo-bashing tour, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the following before a packed house at the Iranian embassy in Ajuba,

They [America] are the self-proclaimed leaders and everybody should know that self-proclaimed leadership is dictatorship

In other words, America, I’m assuming he’s talking about the government not the people, is the world’s dictator due to the influence she has over vast swathes of the planet. Whether this influence/power translates into a dictatorship I can’t say, but I know that in Latin America most people would agree with the world’s most controversial engineer (below).

Curse the West and their decadent haircuts

Fact: Historically speaking, the U.S. has ill treated her neighbors to the south.

This has led to many of my fellow Spanish-speakers to view the U.S.A as a bully (justifiably so) who doesn’t let ethics/common decency get in the way of getting what she wants. That my countrymen and distant cousins further south elect individuals such as this election cycle after election cycle is another story.

It is important to note that nation-states don’t act based on altruism but rather on what’s best for them or the people in power of the nation-state. In a nation such as America, it is supposed to be “We the People” who, through the voting booth, hold the power.

As we all know, that is an illusion for elected officials here in this great nation are as corrupt and egotistical as anywhere else in the world. Most of the time, they don’t really give a rip about “We the People” but when they do it is for the express purpose of getting re-elected to posts that remind one of the lords of the manors of old. American elected officials are just better at mollifying the narod and through the press hoodwinking them into thinking that they enact laws that are in the best interest of the common good.

All that said, if there is going to be a World Wide Leader not named ESPN, and there has to be given human nature, John Lennon’s idealistic drivel notwithstanding, who would you rather have in that position than the United States of America?

The Soviets certainly weren’t up to the task, the Chinese might just bump America from the throne, but do we really want that, given China’s atrocious record in dealing with dissent?

For all of her past and present flaws, America has been a force for stability in this fallen world. Yes, she has acted in self-interest, but more often than not her self-preserving actions have been for the betterment of the world, her rescue of Western Europe during World War II might have been her finest moment. For all of Western Europe’s anti-Americanism, I wonder if they stop to think that a Nazi regime would be more favorable?

Ironically enough, many confuse the current American system to that of the Nazis. Such historical shortsightedness merits little or no commentary.

America has a form of government (totalitarian democracy), which is far from perfect, seems to be the best practical form of government under our fallen circumstances.

The inadequacies of the system just go to show how fallen this world really is.

Kabul: The New Live Music Capital Of The World

Look out Austin, you might have an usurper to your “Live Music Capital of the World” throne in the form of Kabul, yep, that Kabul.

At least judging by the enthusiasm and moxie of bands such as “Kabul Dreams”.  Check out their YouTube page here unless you think the Taliban’s ideology is just peachy keen.

They are profiled in the following story,

We’re the Tali-band! Afghan rockers challenge hardliners to a duel… with electric guitars

Bands such as this would have been jailed under Taliban rule, no doubt for using corrupt Western practices to pollute their religious utopia. In fact, when the Taliban were in power,

Playing musical instruments was banned. Singing was allowed, but only songs praising Allah or the Taliban.

Gee, that sounds like a lot of churches here in the States, not to mention universities, looking at you Bob Jones. Same tune, different key.

As for the music that is making the rounds in Afghanistan,

Rock music has made inroads since the fall of the Taliban. A smattering of music shops sell pirated CDs of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and other bands. Indian and Pakistani groups also are popular among the youth.

What? No one’s thought of slipping The (now disbanded) Afghan Whigs in to the mix? Or  at least Mr. Mister (below)

Totalitarian Democracy

I became fascinated by the small island nation of Iceland in large part to Tom Clancy’s Red Storm Rising. A tome which probably doesn’t resonate with people who didn’t live during the Cold War, but which is a captivating and thrilling read.

I hope to visit the country at some point in my life, at least to see how they do Mexican food there…

One of Clancy’s subplots focuses on Iceland, it’s takeover by a Soviet Air Guards division and inevitable (Clancy is American after all) liberation by NATO forces led by U.S. Marines aided by a scrawny Air Force weatherman and his merry band.

So naturally, when I ran across the following article, Is Iceland a Totalitarian State?, I decided to check it out,

  1. Because it’s about Iceland
  2. Totalitarian __________ and Iceland seem incongruous

Needless to say, the article was eye-opening for it’s description of how a seemingly free, liberal even and democratic society can be anything but. And also for its relevancy to the way America is governed.

An excerpt,

Totalitarianism is a political system in which the state recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life. J.L. Talmon used the term “totalitarian democracy” to refer to a system of government in which lawfully elected representatives maintain the integrity of a nation state whose citizens, while granted the right to vote, have little or no participation in the decision-making process of the government.

It has a certain ring of familiarity to it, no?

One Simple Way to Save the Planet: Keep It Zipped

Al Gore’s dalliances are not really the American public’s concern. Captain Planet is no longer a high-ranking public “$ervant” so his alleged lack of judgment does not compromise national security in any way. Though, it may have dire global consequences as we will see shortly.

The matter is between him and Tipper, and judging by their split, it looks like she knew something was going on, but that’s between them.

Recently, Portland police released the lurid details of what transpired between a masseuse and the Cassandra of our times.

I won’t go into them here because quite frankly I don’t care about the details, but if you do you can check it out here:

Sex complaint against Gore is detailed, credible

It is interesting that some of the major media players have stayed mostly mum on this. In fact, looking at the front pages of the sites of some of the big boys like ABC, CBS, Huffington Post, CNN and MSNBC this morning, nary a mention of what the police report said.

This is a tired song but it bears repeating, one wonders if Gore had been a GOP fixture, would the masseuse’s report been a major front page news item on these sites? Would the graphic details (a la “wide stance”) been emblazoned for all to see and snicker at?

Of course, but this is the modus operandi of these outlet’s and there’s nothing wrong with that, you’re supposed to take care of your own, especially when they screw up, right? What are chums for? Besides he gave us the “Internets”, right Dubya? Which without, we would have never had “Twitters”, right Barry?

A profit for our time

Make no mistake about it, these outlets (particularly ABC’s GMA) have been beating Mr. Gore’s drum on our planet’s pyrogenic condition for year$ now. They’re not about to undermine the apocalyptic religion that is anthropogenic global warming (and the whole “green” journalism wing$ it has created for them) by reporting on its chief prophet’s extracurricular activities.

Which brings us to an interesting tidbit in the police report. After the alleged encounter between the masseuse and Gore, the woman told her friends about it. Her friends, “liberals like herself”,

…advised against telling police. One asked her “to just suck it up; otherwise, the world’s going to be destroyed from global warming.”

While I’m not going to go as far as Michael Savage and proclaim that “liberalism is a mental disorder” (it’s not), it’s incredulous that her “liberal” friends truly believed that what stands between annihilation and our continuing existence on planet Earth was Al Gore’s reputation as a husband who keeps the 7th commandment.

To quote one of my son’s DVDs, “All I can is, ‘Wow'”

James Cameron to Ask Eywa About Oil Spill

In light of the immensity of the Charlie-Fox that is the Gulf oil spill, with nowhere/no one else to turn to the Feds have asked notable movie director, James Cameron for advice on the best way to um, terminate this titanic mess.

I lost all respect for Herr Cameron after reluctantly watching Titanic. When it came out and people around me were going to the theaters in droves, I steadfastly held out. This stubborn refusal to line Cameron’s pockets lasted for an entire year until one lazy Saturday afternoon when Cinemax ran it and I plopped down in front of the telly and watched.

Needless to say, the movie was everything I thought it would be: a sappy and trite “love” story not worthy of 3 seconds of my life, not to mention the 3 hours or so of it.  For a hilarious take on the Titanic character “Rose” (nauseously played by Kate Winslet) go all the way down the page in the following Camille Paglia op-ed:

Bow-ow-ow: Obama’s painful missteps

So when Cameron’s pantheistic Smurfest, Avatar, came out, I didn’t flock to the IMAX despite entreaties from several people. While I have watched the movie, albeit blasphemously, on DVD and on a non-flatscreen TV (the horror!), I remain one of the Luddites who has not had the life-changing 3D experience. Bah! Humbug!

To me “Pandora” will always be the 80s Mexican pop group (below) and not some idyllic living world which doesn’t take sides but does,

While, I fervently hope that Cameron can provide a solution to widening mess in the Gulf, short of him having a queue which links him up to Zonama Sekot Gaia/Eywa, AND he gets her to take sides (like Jake Sully did) I don’t see the director na’vigating the feds, BP or Gulf Coast fisherman out of this mess.

SB 1070 visits the Recent White House State Dinner

According to Forbes, Mexican business magnate Carlos Slim is worth $53.5 billion, making him the world’s richest person by em, a slim margin over American Bill Gates.

Slim, son of Lebanese immigrants, made his fortune in telecommunications. Recently, (e)Slim (below) was present at the State Dinner held at the White House in honor of Mexican President Felipe Calderón.

What I find interesting is that Slim is wearing some sort of ID badge. In looking at pictures of other luminaries present at this shindig (i.e. comedian George Lopez and actress Eva Longoria-Parker), you’ll find that they’re not wearing badges.

Everyone knows who George Lopez and Eva Longoria-Parker are, Slim? Not so much, hence he has to rock a badge. That’s probably the reason, not to mention his complexion, that White House security might be “reasonably suspicious” that Carlos is the “help” who is trying to mingle with the VIPs.

Might it show that even the world’s richest man isn’t immune to being SB1070’d?

I guess the cowardly Mr. Lopez and the bubbly Longoria-Parker are living proof that it is better to be famous than stupefyingly wealthy.

Steve Jobs for President

Comedian Bill Maher and I are poles apart insofar as worldviews are concerned. He scoffs at the possibility of there being a Creator, I have been born again.

That does not mean that we have to disagree on everything. Showing that he’s not a shill for the current administration he has declared that Apple CEO Steve Jobs (below, after being Shepard Fairey’d) might be better suited to run America than President Obama.

I’m not an Apple fanboy though I do own an iPod and it is a great product.  What kind of platform would Jobs run on? MacOS, perhaps?

Not sure about Jobs’ politics but based on this email exchange with a blogger, “freedom” seems to be a dominant motif in his philosophy. The blogger asked Jobs if Bob Dylan was a 20-year-old at the present time, would he think that the iPad (insert joke here) had the “faintest thing to do with revolution?” The blogger then ends with “Revolutions are about freedom”.

Jobs’ response reveals his commitment to liberate the masses from various things,

Yep, freedom from programs that steal your private data. Freedom from programs that trash your battery. Freedom from porn. Yep, freedom. The times they are a changin’, and some traditional PC folks feel like their world is slipping away. It is.

Freedom from porn?!?! Judging by the fact that Americans drop more of their hard-earned money on porn than on pro-football, baseball and basketball combined, if Jobs ran, he wouldn’t make it out of the primaries.

If Pres. Obama said that he wanted to liberate people from porn, he’d lose his base and people on the right would even find fault with this noble endeavor. Possibly muttering something about this being another example of how socialist the man is. Lest we forget, the Soviet Union and China was and is, respectively, anti-porn so POTUS wanting people to be free from porn only shows how much of a Marxist-Leninist, not to mention Maoist he really is.

Politics…
