Ann Coulter’s Reaction to Election Results

Whatever one might think of right-wing pundit Ann Coulter (below, posing with Bookman from Good Times), one cannot help but be drawn to her first post-election column. The same would be the case for one of her left-wing counterparts had Sen. McCain won, though that box of Lucky Charms would come with a free “I’m moving to Canada” toy inside, but I digress.

After 2 years of continuously (perhaps uncharitably) referring to the now President-elect by his full name in her columns, one could almost imagine what sort of mischief the willowy Ms. Coulter had up her designer sleeve.

Well, the wait is over for friend and foe alike.

The opening line sets the table. She comments on the historicity of last night’s outcome,

Last night was truly a historic occasion: For only the second time in her adult life, Michelle Obama was proud of her country!

Senator Barack Obama wins the 2008 Student Council Election

That is ABC’s projection at least. If this inevitability holds up (and it will), Sen. Obama becomes the first biracial individual to be elected President of these United States.

What I think interesting about this whole deal is the focus on how we as a nation have come a long way in exorcising our racist demons of years past. Tonight I watched/heard a black U.S. Congressman say on national television that (I’m paraphrasing) America is ready to bury its race burden.

Really? I agree, racism (regardless of the criterion) is an evil that should be buried and done away with (one day it will but not by our efforts) but is this nation ready to bury its race burden?

Not judging by this election. Not when a large number of people vote for a candidate based mostly (if not solely) on the basis of the color of his skin (or half of his ancestry).

A black person voting for Barack Obama on the grounds that he’s half-black is just as racist as a white person voting for McCain on the grounds that he isn’t half-black. A Mexican voter voting for a Mexican candidate just because of his ethnicity is equally injurious. Racism is racism no matter who it’s coming from.

I truly believe that true progress would be marked by a total disregard for a candidate’s ethnicity or skin color. Color blindness is not making a huge deal of the melanin a person’s genes are programmed to express. Color blindness is looking past this, not focusing on it as has been done ad nauseam throughout this laborious election process.

Congratulations to Senator Obama on winning what has become, the world’s most important popularity contest. He should thank the press for delivering this victory to him, I would (tonight, ABC’s Diane Sawyer found it a Sisyphean task to contain her glee).

Judging by the amount of people present at his victory party, methinks the President-elect needs a bigger Jeep than this one (click on the pic and watch the celebratory hilarity ensue):

Michelle Obama is probably the best one out of the bunch

Thanks to the anonymous farker who created this masterpiece.

One of the Best Videos You’ll Ever Watch

Didn’t watch last night’s debate because I had better things to do, but even if that had not been the case, I would have watched either the Mexico-Canada match or Game 5 of the NLCS (I like my bread and circus as much as the next person).

I acknowledge that the title is a bit presumptous but that was my immediate thought after watching the vid.

Enjoy!

Jessica Alba goes Hannibal Lecter for the Common Good

Election season can be amusing for a myriad of reasons. One such reason is that some celebrities come out of their sheltered existences to perform the noblest of tasks: get the narod to vote Democrat.

They do this using clever slogans, such as Sean Combs’ “Vote or Die” campaign or even more clever photography, like this:

Yes, that is movie star Jessica Alba doing her best Hannibal Lecter impersonation (read the full story here).

Truth be told, no matter what Ms. Alba does, I will forever think of her as the girl in Idle Hands.

Jessica is a professing Barack Hussein Obama (that’s for you Job) supporter. Describing this new campaign (Declare Yourself), she said:

If you don’t register and vote and make a difference, and hopefully change the bad things that are happening in our country, you are essentially just binding and muzzling yourself.

I know that not everything is peachy keen in this great country, but these words ring a little hollow coming from someone who pulls a couple million per film not to mention a few more from Revlon.

Unspoken in this picture, of course, is that us little people should get out to vote for her man and not the other guy.

In the interest of fairness, why wasn’t noted John Sidney McCain III supporter Chuck Norris given a chance to rock a muzzle in one of these ads? Oh that’s right, muzzles are afraid of Chuck, silly me…

To be a Fly on the Wall…
