Sarah Palin Gets Some Love from the U.K.

Yes, despite the fact that the Republican Presidential nominee John McCain spoke tonight, it shall remain the Sarah Palin show here at Last Row (not to mention across the pond).

So not only did her historic speech garner huge numbers (37.2 million viewers according to this story), now she is being compared, by at least one British journalist, to one Margaret Hilda Thatcher (the one on the left by the way).

You rock, no, you rock

Here’s British journalist Richard Littlejohn’s story:
A pistol-packin’ Looby Loo: the Left’s worst nightmare

An excerpt:

The way the Left, both here and in America, are contorting themselves is a joy to behold. Sarah Palin is every Guardianista’s worst nightmare.

It’s reminiscent of how they used to patronise Mrs Thatcher 30 years ago. What did this small-town girl know about anything?

How could any woman expect to run a country and raise a family? What does she know about foreign affairs?

Of course, they weren’t saying that a woman couldn’t be Prime Minister, you understand. Just not this woman.

Thatcher is one of my hero’s. I have even read her HUGE biography…

I think Sarah Palin produced an excellent speach, with real and genuine humour. I think she will make an excellent running mate and I hope the press will get off her back regarding her family.

Sarah is going make the difference in this election. She is a bright new star to the republical party.
I hope that all the people that were agaist MCCain will see the light now and see Obama for what he is and join the Mccain bandwagon
But if you don’t ….don’t say you weren’t warned.
You will get what you asked for. A socicalist for a president.
So get ready to give back 1/2 of your hard earned dollars and hand it over to the welfare bums.

Well, we in the UK are more than intrigued by Sarah Palin (the biggest news this week), but I think it’s more due to her VPILF image than her views – which are too right-wing for our mainstream politics…

  5. This just in: Well, it’s official. The Democratic National Committee has ceased to exist. That’s right, on 09-11-08, the 7th anniversary of the 09-11-01 attacks, the DNC for lack of a better analogy, has been relegated to the dustbin of history. Wherein, it has joined such notables as the former Soviet Union, mood rings, and disco. So long DNC, it’s been real. America needs a two-party system, but the DNC could run on fumes for only so long. It’s up to Barack Obama to restructure the platform. And, perhaps he’s the man for the job. Now the DNC sputtered along nursing its panoply of grievances, eye poking, finger pointing, hair pulling, nail splitting, and head butting from which it garnered a more than substantial income. But shortly after 09-11-01, the DNC also collapsed into a pile of smoke & rubble. Did most Democrats / Liberals truly have nothing in common with, and dislike the very people they relied on to get them elected? D’oh! What happened and why, will no doubt be fodder for more practiced wits than my own; but one thing’s certain: the DNC is finished, the Democratic Party is over. Drill, Baby, Drill:

Comparing Palin with Margaret Thatcher is at best completely wayward. In fact, it’s offensive. Lady Thatcher was a statesperson highly regarded on the international stage. Palin is a moron whose intellect is missing on so many levels, it is worrysome to envisage her in power.

I am sure many of Palin’s acquaintances see her redeeming features; as an aspiring number 2 running the United States and presiding over the Senate, she will be woefully inadequate and incapable of repairing the battered and bruised reputation of the United States after 8 years of the worst Presidency on record.

Schmidt et al wrote her mutterings and continually manage Palin during her public outings, as they know the damage being done every time she opens her mouth. C’mon America – is this the best your great nation can provide? I don’t think so.

Oh, by the way, Littlejohn writes tongue in cheek, with great humour and is not regarded as an authoritative journalist with influence.

The fact he portrays Palin as a “pistol packin’ looby loo” should tell you what he personally thinks Ms. Main Street.
