America the Beautiful Paradox?

The above is a good read by the gifted Mr. Clancy, though I do not want to focus so much on the plot of the book.
One of Clancy’s characters, deposed Japanese Prime Minister Koga, describes America,
They have the most violent culture in the world, yet they worship justice. They venerate making money, but their roots are found in ideals.
I wonder if these are Clancy’s personal thoughts on the matter.
Regardless, how accurate is this brief assessment?
