Donovan McNabb plays the Race Card?

According to this story,

Philadelphia Eagles star Donovan McNabb says black quarterbacks face greater scrutiny than their white counterparts.

In an interview on HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” to be broadcast Tuesday, McNabb said black quarterbacks “have to do a little bit extra” because there are relatively few of them, adding “people didn’t want us to play this position.”

He might have a point, but he might want to ask David Carr about the scrutiny white quarterbacks face.

I wonder if Merrill Hoge is going to come out and talk about the scrutiny he faced as a white running back in the NFL?

  1. Neil Aquino says:

Maybe McNabb feels that way because of the comments Rush Limbaugh made about him on ESPN. As I recall, those comments kind of came out of nowhere and not accurate.

  2. Laz says:

McNabb might feel the heat more because of the city he plays in. From what I understand, Philly fans are very exacting of their sports heroes.

  3. Frank says:

I am old enough to remember when blacks who were quarterbacks in college were converted to running backs or defensive ends in the pros. Just like in every walk of life in America, African Americans have to perform at a higher level than their white counterparts. It is a simple fact of life in this country.

  4. healtheland says:

Laz: McNabb is correct, black quarterbacks do face a higher level of scrutiny.
