Scruples do exist in the Porn “Industry”

Nightline’s Martin Bashir’s has become my favorite late-night fixture outshining the likes of Mr. Letterman and Mr. Leno (still lagging behind Mr. Seinfeld’s re-runs though).

In this report, he outlines some of the things that are ‘threatening’ the runaway porn “industry”. Threatening is a relative term seeming how this “industry” raked in $13 billion last year (Bashir points out that this is more than the combined revenue of ABC, CBS, and NBC).

Among some of the threats is piracy and I found the outrage of an “actress” somewhat amusing:

She’s angry that her hard work is often stolen by the unscrupulous and repackaged overseas.

Unscrupulous huh? ‘Nuff said…

Sadder still is the following:

‘It’s one of the businesses that once you make a commitment to do it, there’s no going back because there is a stigma in the mainstream and in the media. I’ll never be president — I would make a great president, by the way — but I’ll never be president because of what I’ve done. There’s a lot of things I would not be allowed to do because I have done porn.’

It’s sad because she doesn’t realize 2 things.

  1. The stigma isn’t there because of the mainstream but because God forbids sexual immorality (regardless of the fact that His children fall in temptation) and deep down we know it.
  2. You can start over, how I wish this girl could get a hold of the XXXchurch.com guys. They have helped people get out of this lurid business and offer resources for people struggling with porn

My big-chain hotel room in Chicago last week had porn movies for sale over the TV. That stuff annoys me. But they would tell me that this is the free enterprise system at work. Isn’t an issue here a lust for profit at any cost as well as sexual immorality?
