Word of the day

The word for today is "detest."  I found a cool etymology website and looked up this word.  The results were rather interesting and enlightening.

The word is French in origin (detester, circa 1432) and literally means "to denounce with one's testimony."  So when we detest someone we are denouncing that person with our testimony.  This alone should make us rethink about using the word in relation to things much less other human beings.  Scary stuff…
